Introducing - DSP Wisdom Wednesdays!
Jan 24, 2024We've all heard of "the cat lady", right?
Well, I would like to formally introduce myself as "the book guy".
Like the cat lady taking in any feline looking for a home, I'm known to home countless books, and despite having about a hundred lying around my office and home that I have yet to read, there's no stopping me from passing through library, school, and church book sales, wandering through local independent book stores, nor, of course, adding to the fortune of Jeff Bezos (guilty as charged -- as we probably all are at this point, so don't judge!).
In short, I love to read. Some would even say it's an addiction -- one I make no apologies for nor have any shame -- as I read at least a book a week (and probably buy two books for every one that I complete). I'm like a sponge, in my insatiable quest for knowledge and, yes, wisdom. Some days, particularly on weekends, I can spend up to six yours just lounging around, reading. I'm on a personal quest to read 100 books in 2024, having completed six already in January with three or four more likely to be completed by the end of the month, so I'm on track!
Where do I find some much time to do this, you ask?
The answer is simple -- I don't have television, and haven't had it for about 15 years. (Caveat: I did have a big flat screen for a few years during that time, but it was strictly used a large screen for teaching photography workshops.).
So, while others may enjoy their mornings and/or evenings relaxing to their favorite TV shows or stressing themselves out from evening entertainment "news", I spend at least an hour every morning and another two or three hours every night reading, reading, and reading.
It's not unusual for me to have three or four books on the go at once, usually non-fiction, ranging from business management / marketing to personal development to health and fitness to spirituality (and many topics in between). But, I do integrate the odd fiction novel in there, particularly if I'm on vacation (which doesn't happen enough).
Though my interest in reading is primarily driven by my drive for personal and professional development, I do have an ulterior motive in learning more about the literary arts and someday writing my own books. In fact, I have a list of about 15 titles that I will some day take on. I refuse to be one of those people who lives my life with a "book in my head", but never got it down on paper or pixels. Mark my word... (errrr, or is that words?), at least one of those 15 will make it to print and be a NY Times Best Seller. You heard it here!
Anyway... It dawned on me that I should make an effort to share the source of all of this wisdom that I seek (and try to implement), and for now, do that via my DSP social media pages. Hence, the launch of "Wisdom Wednesdays".
I suspect that this endeavor will morph over time, and I will likely disconnect it from my core business and launch a dedicate "book review" website where I can then become an Amazon Associate (aka "affiliate") and slowly recoup some of treasure that I've pumped into Jeff Bezos' coffers over the years. It's the least I could do to "be the change", right?
If you want to keep abreast of Wisdom Wednesdays, all you have to do is follow DSP on the following sites:
That's it! Thanks for following DSP!
If you have any specific questions about a book on desired topic, just send me an email and I'd be happy to recommend something if I have it in my library.
Happy reading!
